Youtility
Household subscriptions, managed inside your banking app.
Youtility helps people understand and manage household subscriptions inside the banking and money apps they already use. An eight-person Lateral team designed and built the apps and backend in nine months, then stayed through fundraising, scale, and the acquisition by Squeeze.com.

The mission
Youtility came to us with a clear one: power financial peace of mind, and help consumers take control of their home finances. The platform is independent and impartial, which sounds like positioning until you look at the business model it rules out. It sits inside the banking and money management apps people already use, and helps them manage and control household subscriptions from there.

A selection of our contribution
System and product design. A B2C platform with apps, designed and architected as one thing rather than assembled from parts.
Integrations. The platform reads consumer banking feeds and turns them into actionable insight about spending, which is where a subscription manager either earns trust or loses it.
The FCA regulatory landscape. Built for it from the start, with bank-level security, because retrofitting regulation into a consumer fintech is how consumer fintechs die.
Conversational UI. The interface for decisions people avoid making.
Nine months, then seven years
In nine months we turned a vision into reality: designing, building and delivering a fully functional product with a team of eight. That is the part most cases stop at.
Lateral was Youtility’s partner through inception, fund-raising and scaling the development, and stayed for the whole arc. Youtility was acquired by Squeeze.com, a fast-growing US direct-to-consumer platform. Designing and building the complete suite of applications and backend systems, inside a highly regulated industry, is what got them to an exit event rather than to a demo.
Powering financial peace of mind, and helping consumers take control of their home finances.
